Sneaky Peeky....

DSCN5461

A peek at my reveal over at Go. Be Creative.tomorrow.  I just LOVE December's kit and am so sad it's my last month on the DT!!!!!  :(  Make sure you sign up for the AWESOME newsletter over at GBC for some really great info and ideas.  Lainey (creator/owner of GBC) is even going to start a "Handmade for the Holidays" series on her blog to help those of us that want to make some really wonderful hand-made gifts for those we love this holiday season.

CBC05 Postponed....

My husband came back early!!!  He got in last night and ruined my plans to stamp while all of the kids were asleep and get my card one.  I would rather have him home than stamp though, I must admit ;)  He's been gone almost half of the month of November!!!  I've got a great idea in my head for my card.  BUT...today we have to get on the road and I've got lots of laundry to get done for my DD#2 that's going to stay with her grandparents for a few weeks before we can start driving.

So....I will get my card done and posted with the spotlight on one of you ASAP after Thanksgiving.  What that means though, is that if you haven't gotten a chance to participate, you STILL HAVE TIME!!!  So, check out the challenge HERE and have a WONDERFUL Thanksgiving.  I have SO MUCH to be thankful for and I include each of you on my list.  I am truly blessed and I just love this time of year when we really reflect on all that we have been given.  I hope you get to spend time with those you love over Thanksgiving and get to eat all the yummy food you want!!  Take care, and play in my challenge if you haven't!!!

One Down....

DSCN0180

So, here's one of the posts for the 2 tags I was "given".  This is my DD#2.  We pulled over one day in this empty lot to pick dandelions and let the girls blow them.  DD#2 will run the length of 3 football fields to pick a dandelion she spots and blow it so these GIANT ones were a special treat.  After blowing a few and making some BIG wishes, we hopped back in the van and drove home.

In this tag, you post the 4th picture in the 4th folder of your picture files.  I was tagged by Cori and I have to tag 4 other people.  The 4 people I tag (gosh - who to choose?!?!?) may have already been tagged, I don't even know, but I'm going to name them in no particular order.

PS - I really hope you'll play in my latest Combat Boot Challenge - HERE.

Combat Boot Challenge 05

Hi there!!  I hope that with the holidays approaching you'll be able to participate in this week's challenge.  I will not be posting one next Saturday - I'll skip a week - just to take a little break over the weekend directly following Thanksgiving.  I'm sure you all will be busy too :)

Chocolate Room

As you can see above, this is the inspiration photo for this week's challenge.  I found it over at the Behr (paint) website under a section called "Designing a Dreamy Bedroom.  Restful Color Schemes You'll Just Love Waking Up To." and I really liked this one.  You can see the link HERE.  Just make sure to click on the "Emotional" tab.  I am trying to figure out exactly how I want to do our bedroom.  I was thinking a light (not too light) greyish-blue color to go with our bedspread, but the bedspread does have chocolate in it and I really like this room.  I don't know if it would get "too dark" though for me????.....

Anyway - here are the rules:
You will have through Monday evening (Nov 24) to comment with a link to your creation.  Please post your link in a comment to THIS post.  Additionally, please ensure that you leave a direct link to the actual post or specific picture in your gallery.

On Tuesday morning, November 26th, I will post my own creation along with a list of links to all of yours.  I will use Random.org to select one of your entries as the "featured artist" in my own post.  This means for your link to appear in the initial post or to be considered as the featured artist, I would need to have it by 8:00 pm on Monday evening.

If you upload your card to SCS, please use the keyword CBC05 with no spaces, so that we can find them easily.

Tag....I'm IT!!

So, I have two tags to post here, and as I am typing this my little one just woke up and is letting me know in his sweetest, screaming voice, that he wants out of his crib.  So...it will have to wait.  BUT -  I promise to do it!!!!

Colors I {Heart}

DSCN5382

As many of you know, Baja Breeze is one of my favorite colors EVER.  Of course, I love Black and White cards a lot too - so the combo is just perfect.  Granted - this Making Memories paper isn't "exactly" Baja Breeze - but it's close enough!!!  I  made this card a while ago and have been meaning to send it to a dear friend, and am a loser.  I thought that by posting it, it might motivate me to get off my bum and get the darn thing in the mail before it gets lost, ruined or destroyed (or all three) by me or my children (or cat!)!!!

DSCN5383To make the little circles of Baja Breeze over some of the "blooms" I used the eraser on a pencil and "stamped it off" once on some scratch paper and then I "stamped" it on top of the image.  I guess it's spotlighting, but whatever it is, it's a fun effect to add a pop of color to a black and white image.  The scallops are made with the corner rounder punch with the guide removed.  Mostly because I can't seem to locate my Scallop Edge punch in the mess commonly referred to as my stamping room.

Stay tuned tomorrow for the Combat Boot Challenge (an inspiration challenge) - I hope that it can be more successful this week :)

Have a WONDERFUL weekend!!!  My hubby comes back this next Tuesday, so I will be trying to clean the disaster we've made in the house while he has been gone.  Maybe I'll get to squeeze some stamping in!

Stamps: Pocket Silhouettes
Paper: Making Memories patterned paper, Basic Black and Whisper White CS
Ink: Black StazOn, Baja Breeze classic ink
Accessories: Thickers (Roller Rink Glitter White), clear adhesive rhinestones, paper piercing tool and template, pencil eraser, Corner Rounder punch, dimensionals, silver brad, Basic Black 1/4" grosgrain ribbon

Secret Sister Box of Happiness!!!!

DSCN5369

So, I showed you the clipboard that my Secret Sister from over at Go. Be Creative gave me in THIS post.  Well, now I got my assortment of goodies from her as the final gift of the Secret Sister "stint" for this year.  In this CUTE BOX, are felt flowers, glittered flowers, Prima flowers, ghost hearts and flowers, GLITTER, Stickles, scrapbooking stickers/backgrounds/sentiment embellishments, ribbon charms, brads, more little flower and button embellishments, beads, ribbons and fibers ( fibers and some more fibers), chipboard to alter, chipboard letters, and all kinds of other things!!!!  I am going to have so much fun!!!

I think after my hubby gets back from the current "trip" he's on for the Air Force, I will have to take a "Marie Day" to just relax and stamp.  I sure hope I get to!!!!  Peter will have been gone 13 days this month by the time he gets back on November 25th...that's more than half of the month up to that point.  He doesn't have to go anywhere for the holiday...we don't think.  He's one of the few that does not get leave (vacation) during any of the holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's) because in the military there are always people that have to work.  That's just part of it.  He happens to be the one of the few that didn't get his name drawn in the "lottery" for either of those 3 holidays.  We're praying he'll get a week or so of leave at Spring Break because if he doesn't, then he leaves for a 4+ month deployment to the desert before school is out (sometime in the spring we have been told) and will be gone until after school starts the next year.  We haven't had a family vacation or used any of his leave since LAST Spring Break in April.  When he deploys it will be a WHOLE summer without him here.  Not that he doesn't have to work during the summer, but at least we can do fun family things that people usually do in the summer, even if he has to work.  We can't do that if he's over in the Middle East somewhere...oh well...I'm not whining here, but it's starting to sound like it, so I'll stop.

My point was that I would LOVE a break and some time to stamp without the distraction of any one or even all three of the kids at once!!! ;)

November 18, 2008

A lost "art"

So....if anyone got this via a subscription method, you saw a totally different post.  I just thought that I would update you on my little "thought of the day" and take off the previous post.  I saw a card on SCS that was pretty clearly a CASE of one of my own - THIS one to be exact.  I knew it wasn't just coincidence.  Well, the gal had a link to her blog with her card, but it just goes to her blog, not a specific post and I didn't take the time to dig around her blog.  Instead because I must admit I was a little peeved, I wrote on here that it really is the "nice" thing to do in the stamping world - the greatest form of compliment, in fact - to acknowledge who/what you CASE (Copy and Stamp Everything is the version I tend to use for the acronym CASE).  Anyway, my friend Laura did do some digging and found out that the gal did say on her blog post with that card that it was a CASE.  She just didn't mention it with the card over in her gallery on SCS where I found it.  So....at least there was partial credit ;)  I feel better.  I will admit, that is just one of those things that gets under my skin and on the rare occasion that someone CASE's me, it makes my day!!!  Plus, when I CASE, I give credit even if my card/project no longer resembles the original work that I CASED.  So....just keep in mind that you really could make someone feel very good about themself by giving credit where it is due, and even if the person doesn't care, it really is the right thing to do.  :)  Especially because, as in this case (he he), the girl who CASE'd me was CASE'd, so it was like a giant snowball and the 2nd gal that CASED gave credit to the one who CASE'd me.....Okay. I'm done.

Combat Boot Challenge 04 Reveal

So...this is turning into a Marie and Kelly challenge ;)  I had so much interest in the beginning of the challenges that I was sure this would be a successful weekly challenge.  By successful, I mean that I would actually inspire people to CREATE something.  Well, many of you have said you WANT to create something but don't have the time.  So, I will give this challenge one more try (next week) and then I may just see if Kelly would like to do a little stamping-duo challenge so I won't feel like such an inspirational failure!  ;)  You can check out CBC04 HERE to see the pics of all the bags and the other details about the challenge.

DSCN5370

b&w bagAnyway, this was my card.  I used the black and white bag you see to the left and was really just "feeling" a black and white card.  I didn't really want to use any of the geometric or other design elements of any of the bags.  Pretty much all of them just gave me some great ideas for color combos.  I really wanted to do the red one, but couldn't figure out which SU! red CS to use, so I then thought to use the red and green bag, but realized it was a lot like the menu planner I posted HERE so I thought I would try something different.  It was between the brown bag and the black and white one.  Had I used the browns, I would have gone with Chocolate Chip, Close to Cocoa and Kraft.  BUT...I really like black and white cards, so this is what I came up with!  I hope you enjoy it!!!

Stamps: Pocket Silhouettes
Paper: Basic Black and Whisper White CS
Ink: Black StazOn
Accessories: Black Gingham ribbon, Large and Small Oval punches, Stampin' Sponges, Stampin' Dimensionals

As for the reader spotlight...as you may have decoded from above, Kelly was the only player this week - she's a loyal participant, that girl!!!  You can see the post with these cards on Kelly's blog HERE, and she made THREE cards!!!!  Aren't they lovely?  I'm guessing you can totally tell which bag she used for inspiration, and like me, she used it for it's colors.

Until tomorrow....

My AWESOME Secret Sister...

DSCN5368

So, over at Go. Be Creative.we have been doing a Secret Sister "thing" since August.  In August and October we were to send hand-made items, and then in November we get a bunch of goodies and everyone is given a dollar amount that they "should" spend - so everyone has a base-line for how much to put into it.  Well, THIS was my gift for October.  Isn't it so fun?!?!?  It is a huge clipboard that actually has holes in the back to hang it on the wall and it is covered in this cute holiday paper and the little number tags to count down the days until Christmas are mounted with magnets.  Somebody put a lot of work into it.  My girls LOVE it and have been playing with it when I'm not watching.  I keep telling them to leave it alone so that we at least have it for one Christmas before they bend a number or something!! ;)

Anyway, I haven't found out my SS yet - I should sometime this month.  She has been so awesome and I can't thank her enough for the gorgeous altered clock/photo hanging and this Christmas countdown calendar!!!

Last thing to mention for today is DON'T FORGET my Combat Boot Challenge!!!  I would love to have you join - there are so many of you that have been wanting to play and I hope that this is the week you are able to.  To see this week's challenge, click HERE.  I can't wait to see what you create and I definitely had fun using these bags for inspiration for mine.  If you want - feel free to use more than one bag to make more than one card.  The more, the merrier!!  I will be posting my card and the reader spotlight tomorrow.  Have a great Monday!!!!!

Combat Boot Challenge 04

envirosax

So, I own a set of these and every time I look at them in the store, they make me want to create a card based on at least one of them.  If you click HERE, you can go to the link where these Envriosax are sold, and there you will see the option to click on each one of the bags unfolded and displayed in full.  There are five bags - each has a different pattern and color scheme.  (ETA: I have posted small pics of them below - you should be able to click on them to enlarge them.  The link is great though too and you can purchase them there if you would like.) Pick one of them and use it for inspiration to make are card - or go crazy and make a card inspired by each - it's up to you!!!  Use the colors, or the patterns, or the images, or whatever inspires you to make a card.  It doesn't have to look just like the bags - just inspired by them.  Have fun and while you're at it consider going a little green with re-usable shopping bags.  Think of the HUNDREDS of bags you would not use by taking your own to the store (if you don't already).  Did you know that it takes oil to create plastic bags?  Yet another thing we're dependent upon oil for..... It seems like we just had a challenge doesn't it?!?!  Partly because this week flew by for me and partly because I only just revealed my card yesterday! The rules: You will have through Monday evening (Nov 17) to comment with a link to your creation.  Please post your link in a comment to THIS post.  Additionally, please ensure that you leave a direct link to the actual post or specific picture in your gallery. On Tuesday morning, November 18th, I will post my own creation along with a list of links to all of yours.  I will use Random.org to select one of your entries as the "featured artist" in my own post.  This means for your link to appear in the initial post or to be considered as the featured artist, I would need to have it by 8:00 pm on Monday evening.  I will gladly edit the post later to add any of you that couldn't get it in on time unless the number of you doing this becomes overwhelming - I don't mind doing that. If you upload your card to SCS, please use the keyword CBC04 with no spaces, so that we can find them easily.

My Menu Planner....

DSCN5305-1

I made this little menu planner for November's reveal over at Go. Be Creative. My Design Team stint there is drawing to a close and I am so going to miss getting these AWESOME kits for absolutely nothing!!!!  BUT, you won't find kits like these anywhere else for under $30!!!!!!  I still have one more month of designing for them, and the peek I have seen of that kit is AWESOME!

I am in a rush today so I can't go into much detail and I don't have time to edit the photos I took and uploaded without editing (because I actually uploaded them on to the hubby's computer when mine was at Dell getting "fixed") so please forgive the photo quality.  This planner is based on one that was in an On Stage (magazine sent to Demonstrators) back in 2006.  I think it was the October one, but if it wasn't then it was one of the others from 2006.

I need to let you know that unfortunately, I don't have a template for this.  I just did my best to re-create the little 2" x4" or so picture of it in the magazine.  There weren't any instructions in there either - man, I wish there were!!!  It would have made my life a LOT easier!!!

You should be able to click on the pictures to see a GIGANTIC view of details inside the book.

Hope you like it!!!

CBC03 Reveal

DSCN5351

roseSo, FINALLY, here is the "big" reveal for Combat Boot Challenge 03.  I hope you like my card!  :)

To give you some details about my creative process, immediately when I saw the rose I thought of the flower in the Bloomin' Beautiful stamp set.  I LOVE this stamp set and hadn't even inked it up yet prior to using it today.  I feel ashamed...he he he LOL!!!  I also really wanted to watercolor it and then try to get the background in the photo onto the background around the flower.  The teal part is more blue in real life.  I couldn't get the lighting to accurately show it.  I think I did pretty good at the background though and had fun doing it.

What I didn't do the same was the circular embossing.  Instead I embossed circles along the left side of the watercolor paper.  I did sponge some Chocolate Chip ink on the image to give it the distressed look in the photo and I kept the circle aspect behind the flower with my circle piece of DSP that is behind the main image.

I thought I would post the inspiration piece again, so it is just above on the right of your screen.  Below is the recipe and on the left of it is a close-up of the flower I watercolored, and as usual if you click on a picture it should pop-up in another link in a larger size for you to really zoom in on details.

DSCN5347Stamps: Bloomin' Beautiful, All Holidays
Paper: Old Olive and Real Red CS, Watercolor Paper (SU!), Holiday Happenings Designer Series Paper (Hostess Level III bundle)
Ink: Black StazOn, Summer Sun, Cameo Coral, Ruby Red, Old Olive, Certainly Celery, Taken with Teal and Chocolate Chip classic ink
Accessories: Silver Brads, Aqua Painter, Creative Memories circle cutting system, Crop-a-Dile (for dry-embossed circles), Stampin' Sponges, paper piercing tool and template (pierced holes along bottom of card), dimensionals

Now, for THIS WEEK'S SPOTLIGHT!!! It is.....Kelly!!!  You can check out her lovely blog by clicking on her name.   Stop on by her blog and let her know how much you love her work and have a wonderful day!!!

November 12, 2008

I'm a slacker....

So....I still haven't uploaded (or even gotten a picture of it for that matter!!!) my card for CBC03 - so, there's still time to join in the challenge.  I will promise to post it tomorrow morning.  I started going to the gym again, and doing so takes up my WHOLE morning and then I just have a few hours before my daughter comes home from school to get things done, so I haven't gotten to take any pictures.   So, for now, enjoy the 12" x 12" LO I made for this month's reveal over at Go. Be Creative. Hope you like it!!!

PS - it is not edited - I took/uploaded the picture before I got my laptop back.

Today....

I haven't had time to photograph and upload my card for CBC03, so I will get that up for you hopefully tomorrow.  If you still would like to join Kelly and I (he he he) in the challenge, we would love to have you!!!

To update you - my husband got home last night from a trip to the desert for the Air Force and I GOT MY LAPTOP BACK TODAY!!!  So, that means pretty pictures again and we want some family time today!!!

I stole this picture off of Laura's blog.  She's a soldier who's getting ready to deploy, so stop by and giver her some love for her sacrifice and dedication for us!!!  I liked the picture, and wanted to remind you about why many of you have the day off today to go shopping and do other things that you enjoy.  This is what today is really about.

Veteran's Day

November 9, 2008

Will you join me?

I hope that you are all having a wonderful weekend! I also hope that you will join me in Combat Boot Challenge 03!!!  I scheduled this post after choosing the CBC03 photo to remind you before the weekend is up.  There are so many different ways that you could use the photo for inspiration.  Share the challenge with your friends!!  Have a great day!

Combat Boot Challenge 03

rose

I was browsing around the photographs on Etsy and stumbled across this one.  I really like the colors and the details in the textures.  It is by Isabel Ferreira and you can get it HERE for only $25!!!  You could use the colors, the flower, the textures, the "embossed" background, the distressed look of the background, or so many other elements of the photo for your inspiration!! I can't wait to see what you create!!!

The rules:
You will have through Monday evening (Nov 10) to comment with a link to your creation.  Please post your link in a comment to THIS post.  Additionally, please ensure that you leave a direct link to the actual post or specific picture in your gallery (help a girl out - I don't have a surplus of time to spend searching for projects that aren't directly linked to!).

On Tuesday morning, November 11th, I will post my own creation along with a list of links to all of yours.

If you upload your card to SCS, please use the keyword CBC03 with no spaces, so that we can find them easily.

Lastly, but most importantly, Veteran's Day is fast approaching so I hope that during your card-making you will consider making something for a service member who is serving or has served.  Being that my husband is in the Air Force, and I was, this is a very important thing to me.  If you don't know anyone to send a card to, you can leave it blank and mail it to me and I can get it sent over to our troops that are deployed from our base (Dover AFB) to use to send back to their families.  Just e-mail me and I'll give you my snail mail address.  My e-mail is mariemc01@gmail.com

Giving our service members cards that we love to make and get so much enjoyment out of creating is a very simple and easy way for us card makers to express our appreciation to our men and women in uniform who sacrifice not only their time and their family relationships, but sometimes their very lives in support of this great country and the freedoms that we all get to enjoy.  Take care!

November 7, 2008

Thanks Rhonda!!

So, I sold some of SU!'s old In Colors to a fellow SU! demonstrator and blogging friend, and she sent me a GORGEOUS card.   Rhonda is new to blogging, as of October, and you should definitely go check out her blog!!!  I love my card, Rhonda!!!

November 6, 2008

Happy Birthday Sweetie!!

Today is my husband's birthday, but he leaves today for a trip to "undisclosed" locations over in the giant sandbox.  It's only supposed to be a 4-day trip, so we're lucky in that it's not a long deployment.  He goes on that this next spring.  Happy birthday honey - I love you and the kids are excited to celebrate when you get back home!!!

DSCN5326-1

Anyway, this is another set of cards that I made for the November Go. Be Creative kit reveal.  I love the papers in the kit - they have such great patterns!!!  I did use my Curly Label punch and the Cute & Curlystamp set.  The ribbon is the Chocolate Chip Taffeta ribbon.  Enjoy!

CBC02 Reveal

DSCN5330

Since I have to to go an activity at church tonight, I have to go ahead and post my CBC02 card.  I promise that this card looks much better in real life.  :)  If I had my Photoshop (on my computer that's at Dell getting Chicken Noodle Soup cleaned out of it) I could edit it to make it a little more true to life.  It's not my favorite card that I've ever made, but it's okay.  I kind of hit a slump this past weekend and was a little overwhelmed with all of the things I had to get done, so my card suffered for it.  I'm sure you can all relate.  Anyway, if you missed the 2nd Combat Boot Challenge inspiration photo, you can see the gorgeous cake HERE.  Here's the recipe for my card:

Stamps:  Always
Paper:  Basic Black, Almost Amethyst and Whisper White CS
Ink:  Basic Black and Almost Amethyst
Accessories:  1-1/4", 1-3/8", Scallop Circle and Word Window punches, Black ric-rac, Filigree Brad covered in Black StazOn, paper piercing tool and template

The spotlight this week is on Kelly  who was picked by using Random.org (which picked #2) so it would be totally "random".  She made SEVERAL cards - they would make such a great gift set!!!  Aren't they cute?!?!

Freedom

Is it a bad one?

So...I had so much fun making my card for this week's Combat Boot Challenge.  I thought outside the box - you will really only see the colors used.  Perhaps you like the repeated elements on the cake, or the flowers, or the other shapes....Or, maybe it was the colors?  Whatever inspires you to stamp, that's what is important with my challenges!!  I guess this one isn't that popular though because only one person has posted a project so far.  I will post mine later today to give you guys a little more time...Oh well...next week's is already chosen, so we'll see how it goes.  I hope to continue the challenge, or I guess I could just show cards I make based on the photos and not challenge you all to do them too?  If you need to see the wedding cake again, go to THIS post.

Ornament using GBC kit

DSCN5312

DSCN5313 This ornament uses my Big Shot, Circle 3-D Ornament Bigz die, some papers from the Go. Be Creative. November kit (Green Tea and Ginger) that you can see HERE, some ribbon (Riding Hood Red Taffeta), some buttons from the GBC kit, some white crochet thread, and some glue and glue dots to adhere everything together.  I thought it was funny - okay, sometimes little things make me smile, that my oval-shaped ornament is made up of circles (the pieces of paper) and triangles (the shapes that the circles are scored and folded into).  He he he....or not, I guess if you don't think it's kind of ironic.  Hope you like it!!

As for tomorrow, I will post in the evening my CBC02 card.  Hopefully some of you will play along!!!!  I feel kind of lonely in the challenge right now.  Check out the challenge and the GORGEOUS wedding cake that is the inspiration piece.  The reason for posting later, is so that you, I and everyone, can

VOTE!!!!!!!!

PS - Having to use my hubby's computer so I can't edit my photos at all.  Sorry for the photo tent background!!!

Don't ask me why, but I was browsing through wedding cakes and saw this one and just loved it.  I forgot to copy the link to the cake, but whoever created it is VERY talented!!!

If you upload your card to SCS, please use the keyword CBC02 with no spaces, so that we can find them easily.

Thanks for playing and I can't wait to see what you create!!
